Wirefab Expands with Purchae of CNC Haas Machine
09-August-2011 –Wirefab, Inc., a leading manufacturer in wire-based products for the baked goods industry, has recently purchased and installed a Haas CNC Vertical machining Center The HAAS VF-5 CNC features a 40 taper, 20 hp (14.9 kW) vector drive, 7500 rpm and a 20-station carousel tool changer. The new equipment will allow Wirefab to expand its capabilities and to supplement the continuous effort to improve efficiency in spite of hard economic times.
“We have been a leading supplier of wire formed products to the bakery and food industries”, said Wirefab Sales Manager Michael Murdock. “The HAAS CNC Machine will allow us greater flexibility, lower costs and quicker turnarounds for our customer, “ Murdock said. Haas CNC turning centers are well known for their high degree of accuracy as well as the ability to use customer cad geometry to increase the efficiency of tool path generation. Wirefab’s capabilities includes wire forming, wire fabrication, aluminum fabricating including cutting, bending, rolling, forming, stamping and MIG and TIG welding.
Custom Aluminum Rolling Carts New Prouct Offering

Wire Bakery Baskets Available Online

Wirefab had a problem:
The local youths assumed that the back of Wirefab’s warehouse, as well as other buildings in the area were giant canvases for their graffiti. The kids would “tag” the warehouse and Wirefab would paint over the artwork. This scenario repeated several times before Wirefab requested police intervention.
It was obvious by the tagging that multiple vandals were involved. The police questioned several neighborhood youths. Then, a single mother stepped forth with her 15-year-old son. The boy had admitted to some of the tagging and a very disappointed mom chose to take actions that would make sure this never happen again. She took him to each of the businesses he had artistically adorned, urging that he apologize and make restitution for his actions. Most of the affected companies required him to do some painting or pay a monetary fine. Two businesses pressed charges against the teenager. Wirefab however opted for something a little more out of the ordinary.
Wirefab president, Jim Samsel said, “ After speaking at length with the mother and son I was convinced that these acts were not malicious but rather a frustrated attempt to express a natural aptitude and talent for art. I also learned of extraordinary family circumstances that make this lad’s life different than most. This and the fact that he was the only youth to come forward and admit his guilt convinced me that we should think outside of the box in dealing with this young man. Like so many problems that we confront in manufacturing every day, there is a root cause and a corrective action. I thought it was important to find a creative corrective action that would positively effect this young man’s journey through life.”
While the young man completed the obligatory repainting of the warehouse, Wirefab used some very creative thinking to put a positive spin on this corrective action. They decided to grant the boy a scholarship to the Worcester Art Museum School of Art there-by providing him the opportunity to express and expand his legitimate artistic skills in a more appropriate environment. Upon learning of Wirefab’s plan, the local District Attorney chose to drop the pending charges.

The up-acting Amada features an 8-foot bed and ram with backstop, a 98” maximum bend length and quick-change tooling. It offers the increased flexibility of multiple positioning, bending and angling. The Amada RG-8024’s 2-axis computer numerical control can handle up to 99 bends and its large pump provides extra speed for longer production runs.

Another Robot? Good Idea!

Wirefab Inc. has purchased yet another robot. The Nachi SC15F is a 6-axis mig-welding robot with a 76” reach, a 360° platform, 400- amp power supply and the capacity of up to 4 workstations.
The Nachi SC15F will now keep company with three 5-axis Daihen OTC mig welding robots as well as Clifford Versawelders, Millermatic migwelders and Schlatter posiwelders already in operation at Wirefab’s 80,000 square foot manufacturing facility.
The Nachi SC15F will allow Wirefab more reach and flexibility in welding. It will accommodate larger and more complex wire fabrication, faster and easier than was previously possible.

It is with great sadness that Wirefab Inc of Worcester MA announces the passing of our founder and CEO, Asbed “Ozzie” Zakarian. Mr. Z, as his employees affectionately knew him, established Wirefab in 1955. With a sound conservative fiscal approach to business and unique foresight ability, Ozzie nurtured the growth of Wirefab from its meager beginning to an industry leader of wire products and manufacturing services. He led by example. There was always a sense of urgency, a demand for excellence and a healthy discontent with the way things were. His booming voice, his hearty laughter and his charming personality will be missed by all who knew him.
Thanks to Mr. Z, Wirefab is now an ESOP company rich in manufacturing technology and financially sound to confront the new challenges of the times. With recent sizable investments Wirefab has state of the art capabilities in wire forming, and automated resistance welding as well as robotic tig and mig welding. Pressed Into Service

Wirefab Inc. has recently added a J&L OBI (open back inclinable) 100-ton press to their wire manipulating machinery.
The J&L OBI 100-ton press gives Wirefab the ability to bend, swage, stamp, punch and cut wire up to ½ inch or bar stock up to 1 inch. It offers the advantage of automatic feed and stamping of coiled strip steel and has a 2-foot by 3-foot bed.
The J&L OBI 100-ton press will allow Wirefab to produce larger products and produce them faster than previously done with their 40-ton press.
